Christina explained, "Last year we ran an amazing student recycled fashion show in front of over 300 people raising funds for the Cavendish cancer care centre. This year, we decided it was the turn of those young women who have different creative gifts in writing, photography and art to showcase their amazing talents. We were delighted to get so many high quality entries from schools and colleges all over the city and the judges' decisions were tough- especially in the category judged by Star business editor Fiona Firth on "A woman who has influenced me. Every one of the twelve winning or highly commended entries will appear on the Working Woman website."
The students all brought family, friends and teachers to support them and were treated to an inspiring talk by young social entrepreneur Jodie Marshall of A Mind Apart theatre company. Former Wisewood and Notre Dame student Jodie set up her social enterprise theatre business straight from university and has worked internationally in Brazil during her course and since. She encouraged the winners by explaining how the writing and photography skills she has picked up in her studies and business experience have been invaluable in helping her business thrive and grow- such valuable talents will help them succeed in life, whatever they go on to do.
Tina English, women's enterprise manager of Barclays finished, "We were proud to sponsor the competition for the second year and delighted with the response - the standard of entries was very high and there were some worthy winners. What an inspiring and emotional event it was."
