Birkdale School Enterprise Club Top in the Country
Sheffield is a hotbed of Entreprenurial activity showing that when entrepreneurs work with schools the effects can be outstanding. Birkdale School Enterprise Club, run by Miss McKay and now in its second year, has won the National MYM (Make Your Mark) ‘
This is a great achievement with over 2000 schools across the country participating in both local and national business start up related events during the National Enterprise Week.
Birkdale entered into four different national/regional enterprise challenges, winning three and is still waiting for the results of the other one.
Our biggest achievement is our internal School Enterprise Challenge launched during the National Enterprise Week. This has produced three real start-up businesses with several others on the verge of being launched. Requiring a high participation level during the National Enterprise Week, the ‘Be Seen’ Challenge judged participants on how well their Enterprise Club was noticed by the local entrepreneur sector. To end the week, Birkdale School sent twelve enterprising, fashion oriented sixth form girls to help host the first annual Working Women Expo 2008 in Sheffield. Being part of a successful event celebrating the Women's Enterprise Day helped us gain the necessary recognition.
The Easter Term will be just as busy with the entries into four more national challenges, several more business start ups and hopefully entering two business start ups in the 2009 Young Brits Awards.
We are all so delighted that the Working Woman Expo could help the young entreprenurial girls at Birkdale, many members of the Entrepreneurs Ladder gave up their time to make the event a success, what an achievement! When entrepreneurs engage with schools it can bring great results and we urge all of you to give a little time back to your local schools so our youngsters can get the entreprenurial bug too!!
